They are meant to provide stand-ins for air-pollution and rising carbon-levels (and other greenhouse gases, at that) slowly, methodically desiccating the environment, and removing from nature the vibrancy that is associated with it. The strange tendrils emanating from the sun on the negative y-axis are meant to act as a representation of unchecked carbon-emissions (yes, a fairly difficult concept to provide a visual avatar for). I'm sure that it seems straightforward to me, but considering the time I've input, that's no surprise - I hope that it's somewhat understandable to first-time viewers, but that remains to be seen!

Now, I'd wanted to go with this rather amorphous concept because it's something that I care about, and I was concerned that if I'd merely chosen something to get the grade in this course, I doubt that I would have been able to muster a fraction of the dedication that this required. And I'd wanted to create something that showcases the severity and concern that it warrants, and I do not believe receives.

This culminating project was to create a logo using mathematical functions (as well as accompanying equations, etc) to represent an aspect of climate change.Ĭlimate change is a subject very near and dear to my heart, and has been a concern of mine for quite some time.
